Behind the Build: Documenting the Production of 11 Custom LHB Explosion-Proof Cranes for a Yemen Facility
Introduction
In the heavy lifting industry, trust is built on transparency, precision, and proven capability. For Dongqi Crane, the year 2020 marked a significant milestone in the Middle Eastern market with a substantial order for a facility in Yemen. We were commissioned to engineer, manufacture, and deliver 11 units of the LHB series double girder explosion-proof overhead cranes.
With capacities ranging from 3 tons to 10 tons, this project required strict adherence to safety standards for hazardous environments. Today, we are offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production lifecycle of these cranes. Through a series of photographs taken during the manufacturing process, we invite potential clients to witness the level of detail, quality control, and industrial craftsmanship that defines Dongqi Crane.
Phase 1: Pre-Painting – Structural Integrity and Precision Welding
The journey of a reliable crane begins with raw steel. In the first phase of this Yemen project, our focus was on the structural integrity of the main girders, end trucks, and trolley frames.
Main Girders & End Trucks
As seen in the production photos, the double girder design was fabricated using high-grade steel. Our welders, certified in explosion-proof (Ex) standards, performed submerged arc welding to ensure seamless fusion. At this stage, every weld was inspected for penetration and uniformity. The end trucks, engineered for smooth travel along the runway, were machined to precise tolerances to ensure alignment during installation.

Trolley & Hoist Mechanism
The trolley frames, designed to carry the hoisting mechanisms for various capacities (3T, 5T, 7T, and 10T), were assembled and tested for fit. Before any coating was applied, we conducted preliminary dimensional inspections to ensure that the electrical components and anti-collision devices would integrate seamlessly with the structural framework.

Key takeaway for clients: The raw steel phase is where durability is born. At Dongqi, we do not rush this stage; every weld and alignment is documented to ensure the crane can withstand years of heavy-duty operation in demanding environments.
Phase 2: Post-Painting – Surface Treatment and Explosion-Proof Finishing
Once the structural integrity was verified, the cranes moved to the surface treatment workshop. For an explosion-proof environment, the coating system is not merely aesthetic; it is a protective shield against corrosion, humidity, and potential sparks.

Anti-Corrosion Coating
Following ISO 12944 standards, each component underwent grit blasting to achieve the required surface cleanliness (Sa 2.5). We applied a high-build epoxy primer followed by a polyurethane topcoat. The color scheme was selected based on client specifications, ensuring high visibility in the factory setting.
Explosion-Proof Components
In this phase, the photos highlight the installation of Ex-proof electrical components, including explosion-proof junction boxes, motors, and limit switches. The LHB type double girder crane is specifically designed for hazardous areas (Class II, Zone 21/22). After painting, our quality assurance team conducted spark tests and insulation resistance tests to verify that the electrical systems posed no ignition risk.
Key takeaway for clients: Surface treatment and Ex-proof assembly are where safety meets functionality. Our investment in professional coating booths and explosion-proof assembly lines ensures that your factory remains compliant with international safety regulations.
Phase 3: Waterproof Packaging – Secured for Maritime Transit to Yemen
The final stage of the production process documented in our photo archive is the packing and loading phase. Shipping 11 sets of large-scale industrial equipment to Yemen requires meticulous logistics planning to protect the machinery from the harsh marine environment during transit.

Waterproof Tarpaulin Wrapping
As shown in the images, each crane component—from the massive main girders to the intricate electrical panels—was carefully wrapped in multiple layers of waterproof tarpaulin and VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) paper. This method prevents moisture ingress and corrosion during the long sea voyage.
Steel Framing & Labeling
To ensure safe handling upon arrival in Yemen, all components were secured onto steel frames with designated lifting points. Every package was labeled with the order number, component name, and destination to facilitate easy customs clearance and installation sequencing.
Key takeaway for clients: Delivery does not end at the factory gate. Our commitment extends to ensuring that the cranes arrive at your site in the exact same condition they left our workshop—pristine and ready for installation.
